MEDJUGORJE MAN to screen at Catalyst International Film Festival.
Medjugorje Man continues its festival run screening at Catalyst International Film Festival in March. Filmed in Bosnia Herzegovina by director, Maeve McGrath, Medjugorje Man is a true Mid West film with the collective experience of film makers, Keith Bogue and Philip Shanhan and original score by Patrick O'Brien and Steve Ryan.
Maeve McGrath notes that,
"Working with other film makers that you admire and that have the same values as you, is important in this industry. When a film is very personal, as many of the documentary films produced by Sidhe Company are, then you need to know that the film makers you work with will be respectful and understand the content you are creating. I have been very lucky to work with Keith and Phil on several projects and they bring great expertise and insight with them. I have worked with Patrick O'Brien and Steve Ryan on several short films to date and they understand what a film score should bring to the project."
Medjugorje Man is an observational documentary that follows John McGrath to this place of pilgrimage to observe the pilgrim in this place of prayer. This film does not seek to question or answer the apparitions but to explore the journey he has taken each year for twenty years to find peace, solitude and a shared belief. This was John’s last visit to Medjugorje, he now lives with dementia and is cared for by his family.
Since completion, Mejugorje Man has screened at film festivals across Ireland, Europe and the United States, taking home the Bronze Tree Award from Viva Film Festival in Sarajevo in September 2019 where the film screened across 22 cinemas and was selected to screen to a national audience on Bosnian network television.
Keith Bogue said,
"I’m delighted, Medjugorje Man has been selected to screen at The Catalyst International Film Festival. It was indeed a privilege to work on this very personal story that Maeve McGrath wanted to bring to the screen about her father. Philip Shanahan worked tirelessly on the edit and brought a sensitivity to the film that captures the story. Whilst we all work on our own projects in the industry it’s always something special when we collaborate on a film project as we have just done on our latest project which is currently in post production."
Sidhe Company has teamed up with Keith Bogue and Phil Shanahan again in recent months in producing a new script from writer Sinéad Collopy. Directed by Róisín Kearney, this film was funded by Creative Ireland and Clare County Council and is currently in post production.
