PADDY WINS BEST IRISH SHORT FILM AWARD AT CATALYST INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2021
Short film, PADDY, which was shot in County Clare is currently screening at film festivals all around the world with a record screening of seven festivals in the month of March 2021.
Winning the Best Irish Short Film at Catalyst International Film Festival was a delight for the whole team.
The jury commented:
"Paddy is a brilliant portrayal of the social alienation of 1st generation Irish in 70’s London and how the young found a new identity through the birth and rage of punk music. Cleverly told with a great script and terrific actors, the design details, music, cinematography and direction made this a really compelling watch and ultimately a sure winner."
Currently screening at the prestigious Female Eye Film Festival in Toronto, the team will also announce upcoming screenings of the film in May and June 2021.
Patrick, a young Londoner growing up in the 1970’s, questions his identity. Living with his widowed mother and younger sister he’s trying to honour his late Father’s memory by learning Irish music, but he discovers another music.
One that speaks for him, one that’s being created by people like him – first generation Irish. A generation that’s English but seen as Irish. A lesson that Patrick learns in a brutal fashion but emerges from with a clear idea who he is.
Open castings were held in Ennis for the young actor roles in the film. Shooting was primarily in Ennis and Shannon.
This Creative Ireland and Clare County Council funded project brought young trainee participants together to work on set shadowing industry heads of department in a scheme that allowed trainee participants to explore film making skills in a practical environment.
